For over three generations the Burnett family has been focused on producing the finest quality New Zealand venison.
Based in the heart of North Otago on the slopes of the volcanic Kauru Hill, the farm is home to rolling gullies, cabbage trees, tussocks, and fresh flowing water and provides a calm and sustainable environment, perfectly suited for deer.
Kauru Hill Venison is a celebration of our passion and desire to provide quality venison direct to the consumer for optimum taste and texture. Carefully crafted for the perfect venison cuts, full of flavour, rich in vitamins and minerals.
TASTE OUR HISTORY
Farming deer since 1982 has had its challenges. With fluctuating market returns and continual dry seasons it was hard to see a future focused solely on supplying to an export market hence Kauru Hill Venison was born.
The farm currently runs 750 hinds with strong Foveran bloodlines for hardiness, strong build with placid temperament.
Nestled alongside the Kauru River we have fenced a 20ha block of native bush with a QEII covenant in place to protect the land for the future. This also contributes to a growth in native bird life and regeneration of bush.
